Remember the Alamo!!

This past week for Thanksgiving, I went down to Austin, TX to visit with some friends for the long weekend. I had a great time and it was a nice break from classes. Thanksgiving Day was gorgeous! about 70 degrees and sunny. It was kinda weird, since we normally go sledding that day back home. But I enjoyed the sunshine. :)
On Friday, my friend and I went down to San Antonio. Walked around the riverwalk, watched a short IMAX video about the Alamo, went to the actual Alamo and did some Christmas shopping. We had a marvelous time!!

I love history, so seeing the Alamo was pretty cool. Its pretty amazing that all those men decided to fight to the death for freedom. They didn't know that their death would inspire many others to stand and fight and eventually Texas would send Mexico packing. By dying, they helped pave the way so others could live in freedom. You know our lives are to be lived for Christ,  but we should be willing to live or even die for Christ's glory. I think of people like William Borden who died shortly after arriving on the mission field. He didn't get much of a chance do much there on the foreign field before God called him home. On the human level, we would say 'what a waste.' But in God's eyes, nothing is a waste if it is done for His glory! Because of Borden's death, many others in America were inspired to give their lives for the service of their Saviour. God was honored even in William Borden's death. Are you honoring Christ now with your life?

Quick trip North

This past week I flew to Chicago to meet my youngest brother for about 6 days. We had a great time. We got in around midnight Monday night and after eating at IHOP (yum!), we got on the road. Except for an hour break, we drove the rest of the night to Gaylord, Michigan, arriving about 930am on Tuesday. We stayed there for a couple days, visiting Grace Baptist College, where my brother is considering attending next year. I thought it was pretty up there, maybe cause I've been in Texas so long and anything after here is pretty. :) ok, ok, I know some people love Texas, but I must say its not on my favorites list.

Gaylord, MI
From there we drove south, going to a our first college football game. It was exciting, but very, very cold! So, we didn't stat for the whole game. But the next day, we made it into South Bend, Indiana! That was one of the highlights of the trip, since we were going to two UAF vs. Notre Dame hockey games! yay! I haven't been to a game since February of this year, so I was excited. They were good games, but alas, we didn't win either one. Though it was close! They had a nice arena there, very new and the people were extra friendly.
Saturday night we again spent on the road, since we flew out of Chicago Sunday morning. So, for 6 days we spent 2 nights driving/sleeping in the car, 3 nights in a hotel (2 different ones) and 1 night at a friends house. And we traveled almost 1000 miles in those 6 days. Crazy, but fun!!! :D

mini BBC-Alaskan renunion

This past weekend, some of the girls from BBTI went down with me to Austin, TX for a short vacation. We had Thursday afternoon and Friday off school, so good time for a road trip. Except for the crazy first day of travel which I wrote about in my previous post. We went down for a couple nights of a missions conference, which were great. While there, I got to see an old friend from Alaska, Roxanne. Also, there was a missionary couple there that used to attend my church in Alaska back in the 90s. So, we got to reunite and spend a little time with each other. Also, the family we stayed with for the weekend, are from Alaska originally. Just can't get away from it. :) Have I mentioned that I LOVE Alaska!!!
